Del Norte High School Dance presents ~ Sixty students from the intermediate through advanced dance classes will share pieces in styles including modern, jazz, abstract and lyrical, as well as a comedy piece to round out this year's offering. Tickets are $5 for students, $8 for adults, and are available at the door on the night of the performance. All proceeds benefit the advanced classes trip to New York City in March. presents ~ After 14 years of touring in North America, Huun Huur Tu has emerged as the foremost representative of the remarkable musical culture of Ruva, located near Mongolia. Tuvan music is not abstract but representational: it both imitates the sounds of nature and makes sonic "maps" of physical landscapes/topography, which are expressed by texted songs, throat singing, whistling and other kinds of vocal productions. presents ~ A gifted musician and performer, Tom Rush began his career in the early 1960s playing Boston-area clubs and coffee houses, the flagship of which was Club 47. Known especially for his album The Circle Game, Rish displays an uncanny knack for finding wonderful songs and for writing his own. He continues to tour, and has introduced a new generation of musicians (Alison Krauss, Mark O'Connor) to the listening public via his Club 47-style Boston Symphony hall performances and tours. presents ~ The six members of the Kahurangi ("a cloak from heaven") Dance Theatre Ensemble present a vibrant collection of traditional maori dances and music dating back to 900 A.D., when the first migration from Hawaii to New Zealand occurred. Members of the ensemble, who are graduates of the unique Takitimu Performing Arts School in Hastings, New Zealand, spend a year touring the world before returning home.
